Sommet Lumière 2026 — International Resilience Initiative for Independent Screens

ALCOR SUNDAY NEWS

Independent cinemas are essential spaces for discovery, cultural exchange and the circulation of films beyond the mainstream. At the Lumière Summit in Saint-Paul-de-Vence, filmmakers and institutions launched IRIS — the International Resilience Initiative for Independent Screens.

The first international organisation specifically dedicated to endangered art-house and independent cinemas, IRIS will combine funding, expertise and advocacy. Backed by more than forty filmmakers and artists from 31 countries, the initiative aims to raise €30 million and invest €10 million annually over the next three years.

Its work will focus on protecting cinemas and distributors at risk, strengthening local organisations, connecting independent film communities and bringing new generations closer to cinema.
